Prior to establishing HolisTech® Pty Ltd in 1998 and later Padden Industries Pty Ltd (a private investment company), Pat spent twenty years (and 3 days) in the Australian Regular Army serving in a variety of locations, utilising different skills and performing a wide range of tasks. These tasks included: project management, requirements analysis, strategic capability analysis, process analysis and management, implementing management efficiencies, liaison, general management, contract development and management, human resource management, leadership, administration, operations officer and platoon commander.

Work with HolisTech® has added considerably to that experience where Pat now advises on holistic solutions to business problems for product and capability focussed organisations, services numerous consultancy contracts with government and private organisations, develops innovative Web 2-0 applications and services, and together with Graham, is expanding HolisTech® into niche markets.

Among other qualifications Pat has a Master of Technology Management, a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Managerial Economics), and a Diploma of Personnel and Resource Management. Pat has been an economics tutor and systems engineering/project management guest lecturer at undergraduate and graduate level. He is currently studying towards his Doctorate in Project Management (DPM) at the RMIT University .

Pat is the Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of two companies, a member of the Project Management Institute , the Australian Institute of Management and the Systems Engineering Society of Australia .

The Factors Contributing to Project Success. A presentation based upon a peer reviewed paper. It was presented at PMOz 2008 in August 2008.

A short brief on Leveraging Web 2.0 for Government Service Delivery. It was developed to provide a short overview to provide government executives an insight into how Web 2.0 can assist and is also used as a handout for HolisTech's one hour executive overview.

Understanding the Complexity of Program Management - AIM. A presentation on the Project Knowledge Model (PKM) and Business Network Analysis (BNA) and its applicability to a large Program of Projects. The presentation was given by Pat Byrne and Graham Durant-Law to the Canberra Chapter of the Australian Institute of Management (AIM).

Understanding the Complexity of Program Management . A presentation in February 2008 by Patrick Byrne and Graham Durant-Law to the Melbourne Chapter of the Project Management Institute . Just over 150 project and program managers attended the session. This was the first time we exposed our Project Knowledge Model and Business Network Analysis techniques to a public forum of our peers.

The Knowledge Level of Maturity (KLOM) - A Knowledge Approach to Identifying Risk in Projects . This paper was presented at the 19th IPMA World Congress in India in November 2005.

Innovation, Creativity, and Knowledge Management . A paper written as part of the requirements for a Doctorate of Project Management at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology .

  Designing an Emergent Capability Based Strategy . A paper that is in part an attempt to illustrate that military strategy has a lot to teach business and that much of the "guru" speak in management literature is not necessarily new or innovative. Additionally, it was to illustrate that some of the views of business strategy are not incompatible and one does not need to sit in one camp or another as there is a middle road. It was published in the Australian Defence Force Journal No. 163 November / December 2003 .

 A Strategic Risk Based Approach to Regulating Technologies and Vulnerabilities . A presentation to the 2007 International Symposium on Technology and Society given in June 2007. The conference was organised by The Society on Social Implications of Technology .
